About Us

Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi Foundation

Institutionalising a Legacy. Shaping the Future.

The Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi Foundation is a public charitable trust established to institutionalise and carry forward the enduring legacy of one of India's most respected statesmen, scholar, and nation-builder — Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi.

Dr. Joshi's life represents a rare confluence of intellectual excellence and public service, spanning over seven decades. A physicist, parliamentarian, educator, and visionary thinker, he has played a transformative role in shaping India's journey across education, science, technology, space, governance, and civilisational thought. His contributions go far beyond positions held — they reflect a philosophy-driven approach to nation-building, rooted in knowledge, ethics, and national purpose.

The Foundation draws inspiration from this extraordinary legacy — from his pioneering work as a scientist and academician, his efforts to democratise knowledge, and his leadership in transforming India's education and science & technology ecosystem. Landmark initiatives such as the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, promotion of science as a national movement, and policies advancing gender equity and inclusive education stand as enduring pillars of his impact.

Dr. Joshi's contributions also extend to safeguarding India's strategic interests in global frameworks, strengthening national unity through historic initiatives such as the Ekta Yatra, and shaping a political movement grounded in ideology, discipline, and intellectual clarity. His distinguished parliamentary career and lifelong advocacy of India's civilisational heritage reflect a rare synthesis of science, spirituality, and social justice. For his exemplary contributions, Dr. Joshi was conferred the Padma Vibhushan in 2017 for exceptional service in public affairs; the Best Parliamentarian Award in 2009 in recognition of his long and distinguished parliamentary career; and the Order of Friendship by Russia in 2013 — one of Russia's highest civilian awards for foreign nationals, granted for his significant contribution to fostering friendship and strengthening cooperation with the Russian Federation.

Guided by his principles, the Foundation seeks to build a non-partisan, global, and future-oriented platform that brings together thought leaders, policymakers, scholars, and institutions to address contemporary challenges while remaining rooted in India's timeless wisdom.

At its core, the Foundation is committed to

  • Advancing evidence-based policy and thought leadership
  • Promoting integral humanism and sustainable consumption
  • Reviving and applying India's civilisational knowledge systems
  • Fostering inclusive, equitable, and future-ready societal progress

Established by Prof. (Dr.) Rajendra Pratap Gupta, a close associate of Dr. Joshi for nearly three decades, the Foundation reflects a deep commitment to ensuring that this legacy is not only preserved but translated into a living, evolving institution that continues to shape ideas, policies, and action.

This is not merely a tribute — it is a continuum of thought and nation-building, dedicated to inspiring and empowering future generations to carry forward the ideals of knowledge, integrity, and service.
